Time to move on, so on the road again for the short drive to Chester. We went via the town of Llangollen in Wales. A great little village with attractive buildings, river running through it, gift shops and (sigh) a steam railway.
The first stop there was the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct where water still runs across it from the local canals, and boats still take tourists back and forth. People also take their canal houseboats across. It's a long way off the ground, and it's quite disconcerting to walk along the narrow pathway out to the middle.
Then on to the town itself. Lots of great little bakeries with Welsh specialties, and a few purchases from an art/craft gallery. And waiting around for the steam train to arrive (not me, I shopped!).
And finally a short visit to a ruined Abbey, quite picturesque.
Oh, and that grey stuff in the sky? Yep, summer has ended. Top temperature yesterday - 32 degrees. Overnight temperature - 17 degrees. Top temperature today - 17 degrees. It's cold, wet and windy, your typical UK summer!
