London - walking again

Due to an issue with the apartment shower/bath I spent most of the day waiting for a plumber to install a new pump. At 3.00pm when he had gone I thought I would go for a little walk along the Thames Embankment (it's only a block from the apartment).

Five hours and 15 kilometres later ... because the SUN was out, at last, and it was so pleasant out there.

Just near the apartment is a big row of houseboats, some have even put large gardens on their boats.

This one was the best, I think I could live on it.

Lots and lots of bridges over the Thames, this one (Albert Bridge) was the prettiest I saw.

One direction of traffic over the bridge has a very small lane. Saw a couple of vans inching their way through these posts, traffic chaos while they did so. They must be used to doing it.

Still amazed by the buildings here, and all the various window treatments.

Then on to London-Victoria Station to buy the Oyster Card for public transport. Huge queue for tickets/card purchases though it only took about 20 minutes, very friendly guy served me and we chatted about cane toads, weather, cricket etc.

Westminster Cathedral is not far away so thought I may as well tick that off. Relatively recent compared to other historic cathedrals we visited (foundation stone laid in 1895) so an interesting combination of brickwork rather than fully stone.

The inside is still a work in progress though there is plenty of marble, mosaics and artwork to see.

Time for the long walk home, going a different way through the upper-class suburbs of Belgravia and surrounds.

Foot-sore and weary, I really appreciated the functioning bath for a long soak! Pity about the two loud-music parties that were going in the complex somewhere until well after 11.00pm. Still, at least they stopped in time to sleep.
