Cheltenham to Shrewsbury

Time to move on. Only 2 1/2 hours up the road but lots to see on the way so it was a long day.

First up, Gloucester and the iconic cathedral. Except that it is surrounded by construction work, concrete trucks, fences and piles of dirt. We couldn't even get into the main entrance initially due to trucks. Walked all the way around it and found the 'tradesman's' entrance only to find the main entrance had then re-opened. Oh, and not just construction outside but there's fencing INSIDE. Rats.

Still it's a beautiful structure.

These poppies were growing happily in a pile of dirt and rubble in the construction zone. If I tried to grow them they just would die, but here ...

The town is having some sort of promotion where artists paint pig statues and they are distributed around the town. There's over 40 we think. So we went pig hunting (so to speak) ...

They have also cleaned up the docks area, making apartments out of the old derelict warehouses.

Next stop Tewkesbury, a town with streets full of historical building fronts.

It has a nice abbey and grounds as well.

Then on to Gloucester for the Cathedral.

There's a £3 photo taking fee. But you can just pay for one person in your group, that works! Or you could just sit on a chair and look at the camera in your lap and tilt it up accidentally and take a photo ... whoops.

More from Shrewsbury tomorrow.
