York to London (Chelsea)

Big day in the saddle today to get to home base in Chelsea, London.

Parking is a nightmare in York town, so Malcolm had to move the car a couple of times and it affected our ability to leave the apartment and sightsee. Next time (it's on the list for another visit, really only had less than half a day here) we will have to find somewhere that has free parking.

We did have time for a 1.5 hour bolt around the city walls, it's quite scenic and like other such towns has lots of interesting old buildings as well. Oddly the walls in some places don't have a 'safety fence' on the inside (as demonstrated by my photographic assistant) and yet in other places have a very solid second wall where it's so narrow it's barely possible to pass someone.

A few happy snaps from around the town.

After that it was re-pack the car (retrieved from a not-too-distant car park) and drive off to London. This took the rest of the day (with a couple of leg-stretch breaks along the way). The traffic in London is just awful, I really wouldn't bring a car in if possible. It took a long, long time to get from the outskirts to our base in Chelsea.

Tomorrow the other two head off to drive/ferry to Brussels for an overnight airport stay before flying home. The wifi in the apartment is a little unstable, so posts of my solo London excursions may be a little sporadic!
